Offerings to Persephone

thebacchichuntress:

With the fact that Persephone prodded me a few months ago, and I’ve get to figure out why, I thought it might be useful to take a look into offerings for her. Bats have been particularly fond of flying over my head lately, while I’ve been turning over this idea, so I’m taking it as encouragement. Below is a list of offerings, both from research and a bit of personal speculation/UPG. If there’s something more anyone thinks of, please feel free to let me know or add on.

Offerings to Persephone:

  • Pomegranate, and pomegranate flavored/derived things (ex. Pomegranate Wine)
  • Asphodel
  • Lilies/Poppies/Roses
  • Spring Flowers/Wildflowers
  • Wreath of Flowers
  • Mints (Lemon Balm, Spearmint, Peppermint)
  • Bat shaped items/imagery
  • Ram shaped items/imagery
  • Wheat/Barley/Grains
  • Parsley
  • Black/White Poplar
  • Weeping Willow
  • Cypress
  • Incense (particularly sweet or floral scents)
  • Honey/Honey Wine
  • Infused Waters (herb or fruit infused)

Linden Infused Honey

To make linden-infused honey you’ll need

  • a handful of linden flowers
  • honey to fill a small jar (vegan option Bee Free Honee)
  • a small jar

How to:

  1. Begin by selecting the most scrumptious linden flowers to be infused.
  2. Place them in a small jar and cover with honey (or honee). Stir well.
  3. Let this sit for a minimum of three days, but longer works as well. I turn the jar upside down every day to help “stir” the mixture.
  4. When the honey is done you can use this in a number of ways (There is no need to strain the herbs from the honey).

Take a piece of paper and write down what you want to know. Wrap it around lilac and place it beneath your pillow. If you have crystals available, you might want to place serpentine, infinite stone, turquoise, or variscite with the lilac. Allegedly, you will dream of your past life/lives.

Passion Flower Tincture

Passion flower tincture is used as a nerve tonic. It helps with anxiety, stress, insomnia and gives you a restful sleep. It should be used in small doses throughout the day to combat anxious thoughts and in larger doses at night to help calm your mind and ease into sleep.

DIY Instructions:

  • Harvest passion flower blossoms with hand shears, cutting the blossoms cleanly at the base of the stem.

  • Place flowers on a clean, dry paper towel and allow them to dry undisturbed for seven to 10 days.

  • Wait until the new moon if you want to draw on natural Earth energies.

  • Measure out 200 grams worth of passion flower blossoms using a food scale and place them in a glass mason jar.

  • Pour approximately 4 cups of vodka slowly over the herbs in the jar. The liquid should cover the herbs completely and them some, with approximately 1 to 2 inches of excess liquid to spare.

  • Place the lid on the jar tightly to seal it, so the liquid will not evaporate, and place the jar inside a dark paper bag.

  • Leave the jar inside the bag and keep it at room temperature for two weeks, or until the full moon.

  • Shake the jar by hand once daily to mix the ingredients.

  • Place a cheesecloth over the mouth of a dark, coated bottle.

  • Pour the herb-infused liquid over the cheesecloth, straining the liquid as it enters the bottle. Squeeze the herb-soaked cloth over the neck of the bottle to remove all drops of the tincture and cap the bottle.
  • How to Take It

Pediatric

No studies have examined the effects of passionflower in children, so do not give passionflower to a child without a doctor’s supervision.

Adult

The following are examples of forms and doses used for adults. Speak to your doctor for specific recommendations for your condition:

  • Tea: Steep 0.5 - 2 g (about 1 tsp.) of dried herb in 1 cup boiling water for 10 minutes; strain and cool. For anxiety, drink 3 - 4 cups per day. For insomnia, drink one cup an hour before going to bed.
  • Fluid extract (1:1 in 25% alcohol): 10 - 20 drops, 3 times a day
  • Tincture (1:5 in 45% alcohol): 10 - 45 drops, 3 times a day

Passionflower can interact with some medication please see University of Maryland Medical Center for more information.
